Recently, the 2017 China Robot Contest was held in Rizhao city of Shandong province. Eight groups from the Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering (CDAI) and the School of Electrical Engineering in ZUST participated in three events. They successfully won 4 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes.
This contest was hosted by the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) and the University Teaching Steering Committee of Automation Engineering of the Ministry of Education. It attracted nearly 3, 450 participants in 1, 055 groups from 210 universities. During the competition, many famous robots companies and artificial intelligence equipment enterprises at home and abroad joined the exhibition. There were altogether 18 major events, and the exhibition and contests between various robots presented a wonderful performance.
Among the eight groups from ZUST, three groups competed in the Adventure event, three in the Robot Treasure Hunt event, and two participated in the Robot Track Off-road event. In the Adventure event, ZUST JT adventure team No. 2 (students: Bao Kai and Shen Yang) won the first prize; two groups (students: Zhuo Xiaowen, Niu Min, Sun Rui’ai and Zhu Zhifeng) won the third prizes. In the Robot Treasure Hunt event, ZUST JT treasure hunt team No. 3 (students: Weng Weijie and Pan Wentao) won the first prize, coming in the third place. In addition, the group of Dong Hao and Yu Jiafeng also won the first prize and the group of Liu Junchang and Jin Yuchun won the second prize. In the Robot Track Off-road event, ZUST JT Off-road team No. 1 (students: Wu Xuyu and Shi Zhenhua) won the first prize; the group of Gu Qingyu and Wang Xiaoling won the second prize. All of the above groups were guided by Chen Juntong from the CDAI and Yang Shujie from the School of Electrical Engineering.
The China Robot Contest is the most influential contest of its kind in the domestic robot research field. It is a comprehensive and cross-disciplinary competition, training the undergraduates and broadening their cross-disciplinary knowledge, enhancing the unity of their knowledge and practice and improving their capacity of innovation, entrepreneurship, creation and teamwork. The contest also plays a positive and stimulating role in carrying forward practical innovation and educational reform in institutions of higher learning and in promoting the development of robot technology and industry.
