ZUST’s 36th Sports Meet Opens

The opening ceremony of the 36th Sports Meet was held at the Xihe basketball court on the afternoon of April 11th. It was attended by deputy secretaries of the Party Committee, Prof. Zhou Jiamin and Prof. Zhao Dongfu, vice presidents, Prof. Feng Jun and Prof. Shan Shengdao, staff of ZUST's P.E. and Sports Commission, representatives of commended units and individuals in 2016, as well as representatives of athletic teams.
Prof. Feng Jun read out three ZUST award lists of 2016: Top Ten Student Athletes, Advanced Units and Individuals in Mass Sports. The university leaders commended these award winners during the ceremony.
Before the announcement of the commencement of the sports meet,
Prof. Zhou Jiamin delivered an opening speech. He fully affirmed the achievements of ZUST sports in 2016 and expressed his new thoughts about sports in 2017, which further emphasized the importance of sports in the life of university staff and students.
During the ceremony, students from the Fashion Dance Club performed an aerobics dance, and the basketball team from the School of Economics and Management performed a vivid basketball aerobics for the audience.
After that, Prof. Zhao Dongfu was invited to kick off for the first basketball league match in ZUST. There will be 13 rounds of competition among the fourteen teams from 11 schools, 1 graduate-school and the teaching and administrative staff.
This sports meet will last for 7 months and include 10 student events, such as soccer, basketball, track and field, and 8 teacher events, such as table tennis.
