ZUST Convokes the Conference of International Education Promotion

From June 7th to June 8th, ZUST held a conference on how to promote internationalization of education. All the members of ZUST Party Committee and university administration participated in the conference. The conference was chaired by Prof. Zheng Youqu, the vice president of ZUST.
Mr. Gu Jianxin, the deputy director of the Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, gave a speech to express his congratulations. In his speech he praised ZUST’s unswerving efforts in promoting international education, and expressed his hope that ZUST should have a new role, realize new achievements and contributions in opening up Zhejiang education and implementing education internationalization strategy.Prof. Gong Jianli, Party Committee Secretary of ZUST, delivered a keynote speech with the title “Internationalization: Core Strategy and Key Route for the Development of ZUST”. He said that internationalization should be carried out in the whole process of education management to build a modern, distinctive and application-oriented university. Bearing in mind this strategic orientation, Prof. Gong pointed out that our university should constantly expand new methods of internationalization according to the actual situation of ZUST. He emphasized that internationalization of education would be a great opportunity for ZUST to extend its university culture, and a crucial driving force to develop a distinctive character of the university and diversified education. The whole university should take further action and integrate the resources to education internationalization.
ZUST President Prof. Ye Gaoxiang gave a special report with the title “Enhance Features, Improve Quality, Strive to Break New Grounds in Internationalizing Education”. He affirmed the main achievements in the internationalization of education ZUST has gained in the last five years, and objectively analyzed the existing shortcomings and problems. Prof. Ye pointed out that the internationalization of education is ZUST’s long-term development strategy and a characteristic brand of its university management with its important role and function in building an application-oriented university. He further defined the main idea and general goal of education internationalization in ZUST’s “13th Five-Year Plan”, and emphasized the strategy of education internationalization should never be given up to construct an application-oriented university.
During the conference, Mr. Shu Peidong, the director of Foreign Affairs Office in Zhejiang Department of Education, made a keynote report, analyzing the new situation that the internationalization of higher education in Zhejiang Province is facing and giving suggestions on the next steps of the international cooperation work in ZUST. Mr. Han Weichun, the Dean of International School from University of International Business and Economics, introduced the international education management in his university, and shared some good measures taken in his university for improving international students’ satisfaction. Prof. Joachim Litz, the director of Chinese-German Cooperation Committee in ZUST, introduced the reasons why universities of applied sciences in Germany promoted internationalization, their current development situation and some specific measures.
The directors from the Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering, the Office of Educational Administration, the International Office and the International Student Center also gave short speeches.
The conference was attended by directors from the Foreign Affairs Office in Zhejiang Department of Education and European Division of Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, deans and professors in ZUST, leaders of provincial key disciplines, majors and platforms, international cooperation program leaders, key teachers of English programs, key members from the Office of Educational Administration, Graduate Office, Research Affairs Office, International Office, Human Resources Office and International Student Center, and representatives of foreign teachers and international students.
