My Heshan, My Youth and My Love—The 2016 Graduation Ceremony

On the evening of June 14th, the 2016 Graduation Ceremony of ZUST was held as scheduled. School leadership team members attended the ceremony. It was hosted both in Chinese and English by two students and Prof. Zhao Dongfu, deputy secretary of ZUST Party Committee. Over 3700 students will start off their life journey from the "Trees of Our University” ceremony to realize their dreams.
Prof. Wang Jianhua, secretary of ZUST Party Committee, awarded souvenir medals to four students whose student ID numbers are the first two and the last two. The medals, with the ZUST motto, were specially made for graduates as a symbol connecting them with ZUST. Prof. Wang also awarded Honorary certificates for graduates with outstanding records.
Prof. Ye Gaoxiang, University President, gave “the last lesson” for graduates. He brought up three expectations to them: cherishing a sublime and developing global vision; lifelong learning with striving for innovation and excellence; being mindful and proud of ZUST. He sincerely wished all graduates to become successful professionals and to make a collective effort to realize our university dream, promoting ZUST to be a modern and engaged university in the near future.
Prof. Feng Jun, vice president of ZUST, read out the commendation list of provincial and university graduates with excellent records.
ZUST leaders handed out the appointment letters for alumni contact representatives.
“Your new journey comes along with new aspirations.”The teacher representative Prof. Liu Yinglin described life as a scroll painting, hoping that graduates would not be deluded and misled but stick to their genuineness. Mr. Zhang Ping, who designed the graduation certificates from the School of Design, demonstrated her works to the graduates. With Chinese and English versions, the certificates reflected uniqueness and cultural diversity with aesthetic and commemorative significance as the precious gift given by alma mater to each graduate. The parents of a South Korean student expressed their gratification and best wishes for the graduates. Mr. Zhu Jianliang, an alumni representative from class 1993 and now the president of Turtle Technology Co. ltd., delivered a speech about the ceremony. The graduates were deeply impressed, hoping to garner up all their gifts from Xiaoheshan.
When the school song prelude sounded, the graduates couldn’t help singing together with the chorus. With music, dance, light and laughter, the students from International Student Affairs Center and School of Humanities Education offered the wonderful performance. “Though I have heard the school song many many times, I never felt so moved and sad as today,””said a graduate who passed the postgraduate exam from the School of Economics and Management. “The theme—My Heshan, My Youth and My Love, is exactly the description of my four-year life in ZUST”,”he said.
Setting out from “Trees of ZUST”, the graduates will greet a new pilgrimage. We sincerely wish all of them to steer the sailboat of the best virtues and highest ideals, braving the winds and waves of cynicism on their way forward!
