Recently, Professor Joachim LITZ, the deputy director of the joint management committee of ZUST Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering and vice president of University of Applied Sciences Lübeck won the West Lake Friendship Award, which is the highest award the Zhejiang Provincial Government sets in recognition of the outstanding contribution and dedication foreign experts made for the economic and social development of Zhejiang Province. Up to now, 6 foreign experts in our school have won the award.

Ever since 1996, Professor LITZ has visited our province many times and continued introducing the engineer training modes in German universities of applied sciences (FH) through conferences reports, speeches and lectures.

Since 2008, Professor LITZ has visited ZUST on behalf of University of Applied Sciences Lübeck many times. Through the communication and exchange of the two sides, in November 2010, the Chinese-German Joint Degree Program in Civil Engineering was established. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the project, a joint project management committee chaired by Professor LITZ was set up. The project has received strong support from the German Academic Exchange Center (DAAD) and in April 2015 successfully passed the professional evaluation of DAAD with high scores.

During the project implementation, together with some universities in Schleswig Holstein, Professor LITZ proposed to the government of Schleswig Holstein to establish Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering with Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. The proposal was supported by the Schleswig Holstein government and some universities. After a lot of hard work and negotiations, University of Applied Sciences Lübeck, University of Applied Sciences West Coast and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology established Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering, the first undergraduate level non-independent Chinese foreign cooperative education institution in Zhejiang Province. The institute began its first enrollment in 2014, and it has brought the Chinese German cooperative education in our university to a new height.

As a permanent member of Zhejiang Province -Schleswig Holstein Promotion Committee, Professor LITZ successfully set up a university-company Liaison office for Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering in the China Office of Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation of Schleswig-Holstein, which has greatly promoted the communication between Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering and Germany-funded enterprises and provided assistance to the practical teaching, graduation design and job seeking.
